PopRockPosters
Welcome to my website Poprockposters.com featuring the majority of my poster collection.
Many of the artists featured in this website showcases my taste in music which mainly covers the period of Punk in the 1970’s to Britpop in the 1990’s. However, because I have a passion for great graphic design there are several artists featured here where despite having no particular liking for the artist, I admire the sleeve designers that they used. The section on decades in music features a broader selection of artists beyond my own specific tastes.
I occasionally write for the magazine Record Collector on bands such as The Smiths and Oasis, genres such as Britpop and Madchester and occasional small features. I have collected promo posters for many years, and this website is the conclusion of that passion. My main interest in poster collecting is associated with those posters printed by the record companies to distribute to record shops and paste up on walls, a promotional technique that became mainstream from the 1970’s onwards. Most of the posters featured here are original record company promo posters, there are a very small handful of fan club posters, tour posters, flats, shop displays, commercial posters and the odd official re-print featured, but these exceptions are only included because they add something special. Most posters are of UK origin, if a poster is from outside the UK it is designated on the title of the image.
The posters are grouped either by artist, by music genre, or by period, and there is also a section on some of my favourite record labels. If you want to improve your viewing of these posters press the F11 key at the top of your keyboard, press it again and you will return to your original viewing settings.
If you see gaps in my collection and you have posters to sell, feel free to contact me at billyalbert@hotmail.co.uk
I have tried to credit the designers, photographers and graphic designers where known, and will continue to add credits when they become known.
If you have found this website inspiring please feel free to contact me with your thoughts, comments and memories at billyalbert@hotmail.co.uk. If you wish to read further on promo posters, I would thoroughly recommend two books, ‘Cult Rock Posters 1972 – 1982’ by Roger Crimlis and Alwyn W Turner and ‘The Art of British Rock’ by Mike Evans.
Enjoy……
